Forces of Nature, 2/11/2024

Guest director, curator, composer Shira Kammen joins TENET Vocal Artists to guide us in telling a collection of stories about iconic women through medieval music. Forces of Nature is a deep dive into the stories of historical figures in celebration of mythical goddesses. It re-examines female archetypes through the poetry of Christine de Pizan, the original Carmina Burana, and the voices of the ancient sibyls. Our program includes music by Binchois, Jacopo da Bologna, and Hildegard von Bingen, among others.

The Lady Fortune, 11/18/2023

Fortune and her wheel brought a wealth of music and art centered around the constant life changes that occur at the hands of the mighty goddess. Countless songs and ballads were dedicated to life’s twists and turns by medieval composers, and stories of Fortune’s whimsical power extend beyond the middle ages and take hold in art and music. TENET will perform odes and laments created in honor of Fortune: Machaut’s “Ha Fortune”, “O Fallaze e ria fortuna” by Robertus de Anglia, “Fortune Plango Vulnera” and “O Varium Fortune” from Carmina Burana, and “Tribum que non abhorruit” by Philippe de Vitry.
